About Kings Trains & Our Story Behind Model Railway
Kings Trains is a family run team based in West Wales, UK. We sell model railway trains and related items from a private collection to the UK and Europe from our base along side the former Cardi Bach Railway.
We started Kings Trains in February 2016 after inheriting our late fathers private collection of model railway and railway related items. Dave King, our father had close ties with a local railway society concerning it's self with the history of the former Cardi Bach Railway in West Wales. As children we each grew up alongside the former Cardi Bach railway line which ran from Whitland to Cardigan, West Wales and spent many of days playing along its track and discovering left behind relics. He played a big part in the local community and in the early stages of setting up The Cardi Bach Society, which is now run by a group of people with first hand knowledge of its history.
In 2016 we built and opened a memorial garden for our father that sits on the side of the former Cardi Bach railway. A commemorative GWR bench sits where the former railway crossing was and a traditional white picket fence offers a iconic symbol to former GWR stations in Wales.
A dedicated display, as previously installed by the local History Society and Council, stands at the foot of the memorial garden providing information on the history of the Cardi Bach Railway. We also commissioned the carving of a striking steam locomotive to use as a planter which has received many comments from visitors.
Selling Inherited Model Railway Collection
We took the decision to sell our late fathers model railway collection online, through a dedicated web shop that we created that would offer this extensive collection at affordable prices in hope that each model would find a new home. While creating an online shop might not be the ideal choice for anyone inheriting a model railway collection, for us it was the ideal scenario due to our current skill set and understanding of modern day technologies. We considered traditional ways of selling inherited railway models such as at auctions & auctioneers, through eBay, selling at model train fairs or selling to a trader / model shop at a flat trade price rate, but none of these really delivered the sentiment and passion we had for this collection and what we wanted it to embody.
Since launching the website in February 2016 it has grown beyond initial expectations and founds it's feet amongst the mass of model railway information available online. We each look forward to the continued growth and development of ideas we have for Kings Trains and hope those using us will appreciate our take on things and story of how Kings Trains came about.
